MAGIC Program: Parents Returning to the Workforce

The Project sought increase the participation rates of parents returning to the workforce in the Community Services & Health Industry sector.
Pow Wow Consulting was contracted by the Community Services and Health Industry Skills Council (CS&HISC) to deliver the Project MAGIC Parents Returning to the Workforce.
This initiative was funded under the Australian Government's Industry Training Strategies Programme (ITSP), administered by the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST).
Specifically Pow Wow developed new resources and promotional material focussing on the recruitment, training and retention of Parents Returning the Workforce to address skill needs and shortages in the Community Services and Health Industries. The new resources and material was incorporated into the MAGIC Resource Kit previously developed by CS&HISC.
Pow Wow successfully delivered a Project for the CS&HISC, More MAGIC (June 07 - June 08) which recruited and trained 94 candidates of which 68 achieved employment within the same industry sector. Of these 94 however, only 3 were Parents Returning to the Workforce.
The original MAGIC Resource Kit materials were found to be unsuitable to attract Parents Returning to the Workforce as it was originally primarily focused to attract Mature Aged Workers.
The Government in July 2007 introduced new requirements for new and existing recipients of Parenting Payments. The revised and customised MAGIC Resource Kit was aimed to attract this target group.
