This qualification covers workers who provide assistance to allied health professionals. Workers at this level operate under direct supervision and do not conduct programs or therapeutic interventions. Fifteen units must be selected for this qualification including six compulsory and nine electives.

Compulsory:

• Communicate and work effectively in health
• Comply with infection control policies & procedures in health work
• Participate in OHS processes
• Contribute to effective workplace relations
• Use basic medical terminology
• Recognise healthy body systems in a health care context

Electives:

• Maintain high standard of client service
• Assist with client movement
• Respond effectively with difficult or challenging behaviour
• Transport clients
• Assist nursing team in an acute care environment
• Provide support in an acute care environment

• Follow basic food safety practices
• Oversee the day to day implementation of food safety in the workplace
• Apply and monitor food safety requirements
• Work effectively with culturally diverse clients and co-workers
• Handle waste in a health care environment
• Apply first aid
• Follow safe manual handling practices
