Workers in this occupational group work in the community under regular supervision within clearly defined organisational guidelines and service plans. These workers carry out activities related to the maintenance of an individual's personal care and/or other activities of living. These workers report to a supervisor and are not responsible for other workers.
Fifteen units must be selected for this qualification including all compulsory units and five electives.
Course Overview:
- Provide care/support which is responsive to the specific nature of dementia
- Orientation to aged care work
- Communicate appropriately with clients and colleagues
- Work effectively with culturally diverse clients and co-workers
- Work effectively in a home and community care environment
- Provide personal care
- Comply with information requirements of the aged care and community care sectors
- Participate in safety procedures for direct care work
- Facilitate co-operative behaviour
- Provide care and support
- Support the older person to maintain their independence
- Comply with infection control policies and procedures
- Orientation to disability work
- Deliver care services using a palliative approach
- Provide support to an older person
